Pure Copper
Pure copper is copper found in its native state. A freshly exposed shine surface
of pure copper has a reddish-orange color, which then starts fading and within
5-20 years undergoes a series of chemical reactions that give the shiny metal
a pale green outer layer called a patina.
Oxidized Copper
First stage of exposure to air can cause copper to oxidize and tarnish with
a blue-green patina. Copper oxidation leads to the formation of oxides that
develop a distinctive brown color on the surface. The formation of cupric oxide
coating in an industrial setting includes a previous application of specific
solutions on the copper surface followed by heat-treating.
Patinated Copper
Patinated copper is copper which outer layer is covered with patina under which
oxide film and pure copper are found. Patina is an aged appearance caused by
environmental factors, either acquired naturally within 5-20 years or artificially
induced with acid-containing solutions and oxidizing agents.
Tinned Copper
Tinned copper is a type of copper shiny surface coated in a thin layer of tin.
Tinned copper over the time turns into a warm, matte grayish hue that matches
well with other materials. Patina that develops under a thin layer of silvery tin is
responsible for the greenish hue.
Bronze
Unlike stannous copper, where only the copper surface is treated with tin, bronze
is an alloy consisting primarily of copper. As a result, a color change is different
as well as the color development is longer going all way from reddish-brown
oxide coating to dark-brown even anthracite. The subsequent patina coating
forms much more slowly than with traditional copper.
Brass
Brass is a reddish-gold metallic alloy that is made of copper and zinc. The
ultimate color of brass is highly affected by the factors as follows: weather
conditions, the roof pitch, the time in shadow vs. exposure to the sun,
placement on leeward vs. the four cardinal directions. Weathering changes the
original reddish golden color; after the initial matting the surface takes on a
greenish brown tone, which slowly turns greyish brown before evolving into a
dark brown-anthracite color. The subsequent patina coating forms on brass
roofs that is much alike the patina of pure copper.
Gold Look Copper
Gold-look copper is actually a metal alloy that has copper as its principal
component. The original goldish surface develops in a distinctive manner
through weathering and by gaining of a slightly visible oxide layer, giving a matt
gold colored appearance. As a result, the roof remains forever in an elegant
warm gold color. This material is commonly used on church domes and building
facades.
Corten Steel Look Copper
Presented as copper sheets and ribbons with the matte ‘rusty’ surface, corten
steel look copper is primarily a design product that adds some vibe and
interaction to roofs and facades. Once installed, ‘rusty’ copper materials
continue living in harmony with nature, and making us gaze at awe at ever-
changing color nuances. With its unrivalled optical effects (light vs shadow,
white vs black, wet vs dry), corten steel look copper is the trendsetter in metallic
roofs and facades.
